Therapeutic Dance
You don't have to be a dancer to recognize the therapeutic benefits of dance for mind, body and soul. Most of us have at some point danced along to our favourite songs whether it is on the dance floor on a Saturday night or bopping along in the privacy of your own home. It feels good doesn't it? Not all of us can learn dance steps, but we can all dance! Here are some of the ways we use dance at Kirstydance:
- Promote General health and Wellbeing - Assist in the treatment of cognitive, social and behavioural problems - Enhance and explore creativity - Make dance accessible to everyone regardless of age, gender, background or ability. To find a class, workshop or session that suits you, please feel free to explore the site, or contact me to discuss.
| Dance-Movement Therapy
Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to assist in treatment of a range of emotional, cognitive, physical and behavioural problems. Like all creative therapies the emphasis is placed on the creative process, rather than the finished product.
What you need to know...
Dance-movement therapy works on the principle that mind and body are inextricably linked and that the health of one affects the other. Unresolved issues, repressed memories and unprocessed emotions may be stored in our body and manifesting physically. Movement and dance can bring what’s been hidden to the surface and into consciousness, hopefully allowing us to understand and release.
Dance-movement therapy sessions are tailored to suit the specific needs of the group or individual, but work to bring about changes in the body - such as changes in posture and movement patterns. By extending movement range and making these changes, we may bring about changes in the mind, resulting in changes in attitude and behaviours.
Some of the benefits are listed below: - Enhance general health and well-being
- Gain a greater awareness of your body
- Improve relationship with the body and body image.
- Bring about changes in lifestyle, attitudes and behaviours
- Access your creativity and intuition
- Express yourself creatively and non-verbally
- Improve fitness, coordination, mobility and flexibility
- Resolve issues and inner-conflict
